IT IS VERY DISPLEASING TO HEAR THAT THESE CUTE LITLLE GEMS ARE OUT OF PRINT, AS WE ARE MISSING ONE OF THE SERIES AND NOW WE CANT REPLACE IT!

Toad Overload: A True Tale of Nature Knocked Off Balance in Australia
Published in Library Binding by Millbrook Press (April, 1996)
Authors: Patricia Seibert and Jan Davey Ellis
Average review score:

An Overabundance of Toads
Science/Social Studies picture book focusing on the balance of nature in Australia. Gives factual information about the attempts to control the beetles which were destroying sugar cane crops. Giant toads, the size of dinner plates, were imported to eat the beetles. At first the toads stayed in the fields where they belonged, but soon they strayed to the towns and caused many problems. This book shows that you never know what might happen when you interfere with Mother Nature. The illustrations are wonderful, especially the one of the toad dressed up as a baby!

Tougaloo Blues
Published in Paperback by Third World Press (September, 2003)
Author: Kelly Norman Ellis
Average review score:

excellent poetry
This is a beautifully written book of poetry. If you appreciate the beauty of the southern lifestyle, then NOSTALGIA is what you will receive from this book. I loved reading "Raised by Women" and "Aperture" which describes her grandparents' (on the cover) thoughts and dreams. Nostalgic and sensous best describe Dr. Kelly Norman Ellis' poetry.

Transmetropolitan : Lonely City
Published in Paperback by DC Comics (July, 2001)
Authors: Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson, and Rodney Ramos
Average review score:

Bitter, vulgar, in-your-face, yet meaningful
I highly recommend this new Transmetropolitan TPB. My favorite TPB so far has been the second (Lust for Life), because the first has that new-comic unevenness and the third and fourth had a little too much pointless vulgarity for my taste. But this fifth one really impressed me. Like the others, it's grim, bitter, and funny, and Spider says utterly disgusting and shocking things in that sardonic way that makes him fascinating. But the graphic novel also takes up the issue of the human condition again, makes you remember that the reason Spider is fascinating is that he's not -just- a rat bastard -- he actually cares about the state of the world, and is equally sensitized to both its beauty and its horror. Spider has learned, essentially, that the best way to pursue the truth and fight the Man is to be an evil ****. And that's why we like him.

Special bonus: an introduction by Patrick Stewart, who's apparently a big fan. I would have never guessed.

A Trellis for Mr. Ellis Or, How I Saved the World from Global Warming
Published in Unknown Binding by Allcat Pr (June, 2001)
Average review score:

Whimsical and charming lesson in ecology
Louisa May Allcat, the "author" of this instructive tale, tells how Mr. Ellis found her abandoned and gave her a home. However, the balcony where Louisa spends her time overlooks an ugly urban alleyway. She and Mr. Ellis decide to make the balcony pretty with potted plants, whose trellises hide the ugly view. Other neighbors like the idea, and plants are brought into one apartment after another, one city after another. The effect of the greening of the cities fights global warming. Adults as well as children should enjoy the gentle humor of this good hearted story.

Typos: The Typological Interpretation of the Old Testament in the New
Published in Paperback by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (December, 1982)
Authors: Leonhard Goppelt, Donald Madvig, and E. Earle Ellis
Average review score:

Landmark work On Typology
This truly is a signficant work, originally published in German in 1939, now translated into this English edition.

How one views the fulfillment of OT prophecy is truly significant to one's theology, especially eschatology.

Using the word "typos" in Romans 5, Goppelt shows the biblical way of seeing type-anti-type throughout the Scriptures.

This unlocks the Bible, making it a unity rather than dispensations where grace is distributed differently. Rather, consistenly God deals with us through means of grace, all the time pointing ahead to the reality of Christ.

Divine redemption is thereby dominant to both Testaments, since Jesus and the apostles continally demonstrate they understand the typological method of interpretation.

Bible students will do well to read, ponder and apply the astute learnings of this book.

Unholy Alliance: Religion and Atrocity in Our Time
Published in Paperback by Fortress Press (February, 1997)
Author: Marc H. Ellis
Average review score:

excellent and thought provoking
This a powerful book that can change the life of a reader. This book questions the religous background we come from, and the future of God after the holocaust. This book challenged the way I view the world, religion and God. This is a must read.

Uranus (Space Science Series)
Published in Hardcover by University of Arizona Press (September, 1991)
Authors: Jay T. Bergstralh, Ellis D. Miner, and Mildred Shapley Matthews
Average review score:

Review of "Uranus" (University of Arizona Press)
This superb volume, as a result of yeoman duty by its editors, has gathered results from the latest space probes, interpreted by the most expert astronomers available. Although I have NO formal training in astronomy whatsoever (I'm an interested layperson in the field), I found the articles clear in exposition, fascinating in content, and documented with commendable care. In cases where competing theories are hotly debated (e.g., the origin of the coronae on satellites of Uranus), the authors frankly state their own preferred explanation, admit its weaknesses as well as its strengths, acknowledge the merits of rival conjectures, and refer the reader to appropriate sources for further detail. Therefore, this volume not only summarizes current knowledge, but also illustrates science as it should be practiced -- a dispassionate search for correct understanding of Nature.
